Lent is a time to look within and discover how God calls each of us to love and serve our most vulnerable others. As we are called to be transformed - body, soul, and spirit – here are some things to try during Lent:
- Set aside more time for prayer. Now it is good time to develop or strengthen a discipline of daily prayer.
- Read the Bible more using the Daily Office Lectionary
- Give to a charity. Lent is not just about giving something up; it is also about putting something positive in its place. If you decide to fast or eat more modestly as part of your Lenten observance, consider donating the money you would have spent on food to a local organization that helps feed those in need.
- Come to the Thursday Journey of Faith Lenten series. We meet Thursdays 6-7:30 pm at the United Methodist Church, 195 Utica Street.
- Take part in a Lenten Retreat, March 9/10
- Visit the Episcopal Church Facebook page for on-going conversation focusing on Ash Wednesday/Lent.
- Practice a daily discipline using the Episcopal Relief & Development daily meditations. Click to download....or sign up to receive the Daily Lenten Meditations by e-mail.
- Participate in a five-week course for Lent 2012 titled "And It Was Good"
- Ponder the weekly meditations, "Seven Weeks for Water: The Blue Economy" by the Ecumenical Water Network
Water is the lifeblood of the planet as well as the economy. It is crucial for sustainable development in regard to health, food security, energy and poverty issues that affect and engage churches around the world in different ways.
- Take an Ecumenical Lenten Carbon fast. Click here....
Participate in a day-by-day opportunity to fast from carbon as your Lenten discipline. Initiated by the UCC and endorsed by Episcopalians, people benefit from this opportunity to become more conscious and conscientious in their daily lives.
