About the search process: by Jim White, summer 2009
In the Summer 2009 newsletter, Jim White, our Junior Warden, wrote about the search process 2009 newsletter. Excerpts follow.
There have been many questions concerning the future of St. James Church since Jenny, our former Rector, left in April to follow God's call to her new ministry in Alexandria, Virginia. We are beginning to put together a search committee for a Rector. Randy Wilson has agreed to be the chairperson and, with the vestry, he will begin selecting members for the committee. If you are interested in being on the search committee, let Randy or a member of the vestry know.

The first thing the search committee will do is assemble a parish self study survey which will be distributed to all the members of St. James. The results of the survey will help us to know what we do well and what needs improvement, what is important to us as a congregation, what our vision of the future of St. James is and what qualities we value in a rector. These findings will be incorporated into a parish profile, which will be used to help select a priest with the qualities that will best meet our requirements.

The search committee will review profiles of prospective priests obtained from the Church Deployment Office, responses to ads placed in church publications or through personal recommendations. Phone and/or personal interviews will follow as well as visits to the prospective priest's church. The vestry will be presented with a list of two or three possible choices. The vestry will choose our next Rector from that list.

Through this process we ask for your prayers and thoughtful consideration of where we are going in this next step of our faith journey.

Jim White,
Junior Warden
