Susan Havlovic
I have been a member of St. James for 6 years, a total of 10 years as an Episcopalian. I am married to Stephen (for 21 years) and am the mother of Helena and Marek.

I am thankful to say that I know more faces and names of our church family after chairing this year's Photo Directory Project. The Summer Sundays Craft Program for children started in 2006 and I have organized that each year. I also served as a Co-Chair for the Welcome, Worship & Education Committee in 2004-05. I can also be found helping with Sunday School, Coffee Hour, the Newsletter, cleaning projects, and the likes as needed.

This is not the first time I have been a member of a church praying and working its way through a leadership change. Each time, as now, I am amazed and lifted up as I see the members step up and persevere to keep this important institution functioning. I am pleased to be called to do my part as a possible new vestry member. Thank you

Patricia Jue
I attended churches of various denominations throughout my life, but was confirmed into the Episcopal Church when I married David Evans, a cradle Episcopalian. We have two children, Guy and Catrin, both in college.

I love the liturgy, the candles, that those in the pews also sing, and the concept of the "Three-Legged Stool" (scripture, reason, and tradition). I have taught Sunday School, been a member of the altar guild and the worship and formation leadership group, served on the vestry and, most recently, edited the monthly newsletter and managed the church website.

This Interim period is a time of excitement and trepidation. We examine who we are as a community and people of God, delight at all the possibilities; rediscover each of our many gifts, and wait in expectation, not quite knowing what will happen. (It reminds me of the early Church.) I teach at Colgate University, and, in an unguarded moment, agreed to serve as Jr. Warden!
Gordon Jones
Gordon Jones joined St. James with his wife Blair in 2000. At the time, they were looking for a spiritual home for their growing family. St. James has been a great place to raise their two daughters, Charlotte (10) and Margaret (8). Gordon is a recovering Presbyterian, and a physics professor at Hamilton College. He finds both useful in discussions with the Friday morning men’s group. He is biased, but he thinks that the church school and children’s music programs are some of the strongest attributes of the church.

 Bruce Evans
I have been attending St James since the mid 1990s. I attended a wedding and liked the traditional style, and size and friendliness of St. James. St. James has a good children’s program with good leaders, which my granddaughter Kylie likes to attend. My family consists of my wife Sharon and children, Scott (Clinton), Amber (Eureka, California), and Ryan and daughter Kylie (Clinton).

After attending Redeemer Lutheran Church in Utica for the first 30 years, my family began attending the local churches in Clinton, the longest at the Methodist. Then we found St. James. Since Sharon was brought up as a Catholic, we found that St. James fit us very well. That’s why we’re still here and hope to be for a long time.

Mike Baldwin

Mike hails from rural western NY (Lewiston) where he attended the Lutheran Church of the Escarpment near his home. He and Diane met at St. Lawrence University, and they subsequently attended Syracuse University together where Mike was training in the AFROTC program. He was assigned to the 49th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Griffiss AFB as a pilot in 1980, and children happened. They are Nicholas, Torrey and Michael, ages 22, 27 and 29.

Mike and Diane will celebrate their 34th anniversary on January 10th. They operate a small software company, Dart Communications, in Rome and reside in New Hartford.

Fair trade coffee
St. James Church uses fair trade coffee. We see this as one step we can take in helping to alleviate poverty in the world by helping these farmers provide financially for their families.
